WHAT IS SACCHAROMYCES BOULARDII?
Saccharomyces Boulardii is a unique, non-pathogenic, transient yeast that is proven to survive without refrigeration. This makes it ideal for adding to your suitcase when you travel. S. Boulardii is not supposed to multiply (colonise) in the gut and takes just three days to reach a maximum steady state. The activity of S. Boulardii is exerted as it makes its way through the digestive tract.
S. Boulardii has a sticky outer surface which can attract bacteria to its body so as it passes, it removes the bacteria with it. Whilst it is a yeast, it is not related to Candida albicans and in fact releases caprylic acid as a survival mechanism against other yeast in the vicinity.
